Opposition is mounting to a proposed gang injunction that would cover 300 purported gang members in Echo Park, Elysian Valley, and part of America's Best Neighborhood (Silver Lake). Gang injunctions bar two or more known gang members from associating in certain areas, but many people--including the LA Times editorial board--think the measure is fraught with trouble and just unnecessary: "Critics point out that Echo Park is well past its gang emergency days and argue that an injunction, if it was ever appropriate, would be 15 years too late. Some assert that an injunction would serve to harass longtime residents." [LA Times]
