1940s Clapboard Cottage Fixer in Sherman Oaks Asking $575k

New, 12 comments

D'awwwww--it's pretty easy to imagine how adorable and charming this 1940 cottage in Sherman Oaks must have been back in its day. And whoever buys it is definitely going to need some imagination, because while still cute as a button on the outside, the 1,140-square-foot house's interior has been tampered with something awful. Per the listing, "Public records show the house to be 3 bedrooms - however - walls may have been removed by former owners and the house is currently a 1 bedroom 1 bath house with a detached most likely non permitted guest unit with bath and kitchenette." It's still got many redeeming features, nonetheless, including a brick fireplace in the living room, French doors and windows, "some" hardwood floors, mature trees, and a respectable lot size of 6,753 square feet. Last sold in 1999 for $307,000, it's now listed at $575,000.
