Santa Monica-based Gwynne Pugh Urban Studio (Inglewood's Crenshaw Line stations) is going to gussy up the facades of four buildings on a half-block in Long Beach that fronts the Anaheim station of the Blue Line light rail (a cell phone store, a pet shop, etc.). The currently-drab storefronts will receive "significant visual and aesthetic improvements" that will "unify the block to reinvigorate it as a desirable pedestrian oriented environment" (that goal might be hindered a bit by the nearby stripmall and tire shop, but still). Paid for by a Community Block Development Grant, the improvements include new signs for the stores and public art by local artists on the buildings' exteriors.
