Miramar/Huntley Hotel War in SaMo Getting Pretty Hilarious

New, 8 comments

The totally ridiculous legal battle between fancy Santa Monica hotels the Fairmont Miramar and the Huntley is going yet another round. The two hotels are locked in a war of words, possibly-racist flyers, and angry legal letters that stem from the Miramar's controversial redevelopment plan that includes a new hotel tower and affordable housing. But now, in addition to fighting about development (and whether the Miramar's affordable housing plan would bring "undesirables" to the area), lawyers for the Miramar are accusing the Huntley of trampling their First Amendment right to badmouth anyone they choose. The Miramar's lawyers, according to the Santa Monica Mirror, are now accusing the Huntley of spreading falsehoods about their redevelopment project and being "critical of the Miramar project." Now, full disclosure, our legal degree comes straight from the Law-&-Order-Marathon School of Law, but we're pretty sure "being critical" is legal. Thank heavens.
