Dramatic Penthouse At The Californian Now Asking $10.88MM

New, 29 comments

We generally think of condos in the Wilshire Corridor as a good place for the rich and retired set to live out their golden years without having to worry about lawn care. As near as we can tell, the retired legal publishing executive who's selling this unit fits the bill. What does not fit the bill is the condo--the double-height open plan living space, dramatic staircase, and crazy-ass chandelier are a far cry from the usual staid fare along Wilshire. The penthouse is in The Californian, a 2005 building with pool, gym, and 24-hour concierge, and it comes with four bedrooms (including maid's quarters), four and a half baths, gourmet kitchen, a couple of patios, and direct elevator access, all in about 6,500 square feet. It first sold for $6 million in 2006 and has been on and off the market pretty much since then. Two years ago it was asking $11.995 million, but now the price is all the way down to $10.88 million.
