Thanks to a recent grant, stacks of 100-year-old Northeast LA newspapers like the Highland Park Herald and the El Sereno Star are getting digitized, making them much more accessible to the public than they are in their current location at a temperature-controlled storage unit on Colorado Boulevard. "Eventually, the newspapers they collect will be keyword searchable on UCRiverside's California Digital Newspaper Collection website. 'Scholars will be able to use the website and some of the information found in the papers can work its way into the historical record,'" [KPCC, image via]
