Two years after the operators of Atwater Village's Bigfoot Lodge purchased the former Idle Hour Cafe--a 1941 barrel-shaped building that closed in 1984--work is finally on to restore it, Patch reports. The Idle Hour is one of the city's last pieces of programmatic architecture, or buildings that look like objects. Since the cafe shuttered, it's been a blighted eyesore on Vineland, so it's a huge relief to the neighbors to hear the power tools humming. No word on when work will finish and the restaurant will reopen (with the same name), but Wade Co Design, which worked on the Silverlake Conservatory of Music and Sonny's Hideway in Highland Park, is on the job.
