Seven Stories of Skid Row-Adjacent Apartments In the Works

New, 61 comments

Main Street in the Historic Core is still en route to peak gentrification--for every trendy Baco Mercat, there's a creepy Cecil Hotel. One block over, on Los Angeles Street, though, is another story--that's pretty much still Skid Row. But a new apartment building planned for a surface parking lot between Main and Los Angeles near Fifth Street may help move things along. Via Downtown News comes word of Topaz, a seven-story, 159-unit development from Jade Enterprises (which is also building this 419-unit complex over in South Park). The building would stretch the full length of the lot through to Los Angeles Street, where designs show a light feature of some sort in the middle of the eastern facade. Jade is keeping the details quiet, and it looks like construction is at least a year off. They'll need city approval for their planned density. No hearing dates have been scheduled yet.
