On Monday, Los Angeles told ridesharing services Uber, Sidecar, and Lyft to shut it down--the three services all skirt taxi laws by using phone apps and unlicensed drivers (who charge a lot less). However, Uber and Lyft at least have no plans to quit: "officials said they were puzzled by the letters, noting that their companies were cleared earlier this year by the California Public Utilities Commission," which they say has jurisdiction.
