After a vote today, the LA City Council looks set to pass a single-use plastic bag ban that would require shoppers to bring their own grocery bags or pay 10 cents each for a paper bag. "L.A.'s ordinance, first embraced by the council in March 2012, will be phased in over the next year, reaching large stores on Jan. 1 and smaller ones on July 1, 2014." Because today's vote was not unanimous, the Council will take a second vote on the ordinance next week. [LA Times]
