When Echo Park Lake closed for its big rehab, park fixture Maria the goose was moved to the LA Zoo (and turned out to be a dude, so now he's known as Mario). His best friend, retired investor Dominic Ehrler, visited him every day (and still does!), and he'll have to keep hiking out to Griffith--Mario will stay at the zoo now. Ehrler says: "He's safe here. We gotta keep in mind that he's a domestic animal ... If he was in Echo Park, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night thinking, 'Is he going to be there the next morning?" [SCPR, image via]
