Glendale officials have approved a major expansion of the historic Alex Theatre--it'll add "three large dressing rooms, a freight elevator, loading dock, more storage space, new electrical systems and a backstage passenger elevator so it can handle larger, more technical productions and move toward self-sustainability" as it loses its government subsidy in 2015. Altogether it'll add about 6,600 square feet and work should start in July and be finished by next May. [GNP]
