Santa Monica was considering demolishing its money-losing, '50s-era Civic Auditorium after it closes on June 30, but it will live for now. The city council this week decided to create an advisory council to search for $50 million to retrofit and refurbish the performance space, while interim plans allow the auditorium's east wing to continue to host events--the main hall will be marketed for TV, movie, and commercial filming. SaMo officials hope a refurbished auditorium will one day anchor a "Civic Center Creative District and Cultural Campus." [Patch]
