Watch This Awesome Video of Disneyland Under Construction

New, 18 comments

This is more video hour than video interlude: nearly 45 minutes of vintage Disneyland-under-construction footage. It's part of a 2011 presentation by Imagineer Tony Baxter for the Disney fan club D23--boingboing dug it up today. It starts out with carousel horses, Autopia cars, the Mark Twain riverboat, and more being fabricated offsite before moving on to opening day in 1955 with its plethora of animal rides. You can also see the monorail, Matterhorn, and Pirates of the Caribbean under construction, plus some very unsafe-looking Skyway action. For those who like to see old LA, around minute 16 a convoy of trucks haul train cars down the 101 and 5 Freeways. Afterwards the talk moves on to Disney World, if you're into that sort of thing.
