The Public Health

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation is trying to get the city of Los Angeles to form its own Public Health Department (it's been a county thing since 1964) and they've collected enough signatures to place an initiative about it on the June 2014 ballot. But the City Council voted to oppose the idea yesterday and the county doesn't seem crazy about it either; here's CEO Bill Fujioka: "By creating a separate department in the City of Los Angeles, you will create a very, very difficult — and I think a disastrous — situation for our public health services in the county."
