[Part 11 of 14- KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park]
The Santa Clarita Valley News reminds us of a very important "this day in history" moment. Thirty-five years ago today, filming of the classic KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park took place at Magic Mountain. Via the SCV History site: "The film was shot in May 1978 at The Newhall Land and Farming Co.'s amusement park in Valencia. On May 18... KISS performed a concert scene for the movie before a crowd of 8,000 in the parking lot near the Colossus roller coaster, then under construction...The film sparked rumors locally of an actual phantom that appeared during the graveyard shift, after the park closed for the evening. The phantom would reportedly turn rides on and off and show up at opposite ends of the park at impossibly quick intervals. Some speculated the phantom used an underground sewer system to move from location to location rapidly." The entire film can now be found on YouTube should you desire to see more, which we don't recommend ever.
