Here Are Santa Monica College's Hip Malibu Campus Plans

New, 12 comments

Santa Monica College has been working on opening a satellite campus in Malibu for years and it's finally made some headway. Renderings of the $25-million, 27,500-square-foot Santa Monica College Malibu Center were shown at Malibu City Hall earlier this month and they show a modern, curvy two-story structure, designed with green sensibilities by LA-based Quatro Design Group, according to Patch. Located in the Malibu Civic Center near the library, the college will house 210 students in five classrooms, plus a computer lab, offices, an LA County Sheriff substation, and a community room that can multitask as an Emergency Operations Center. Paid for with a 2004 bond, SMC has said it hopes to open the Malibu Center in 2014, but that always seemed a bit optimistic.
