Big day for Hilton Garden Inns! The Burbank planning board approved the 210-room Hilton Garden Inn proposed for the corner of San Fernando Boulevard and Verdugo Road, reports the Burbank Leader, along with its fewer-than-required parking spaces. The hotel will also bring a restaurant, lounge, and pool to the site, replacing a restaurant and car repair shop and sales lot. There was some pushback from locals opposed to the project on traffic, parking, and noise grounds, one of whom vowed to appeal the planning board's decision in order to protect the "tranquility of downtown Burbank." On the parking front, the board did include a condition that the hotel willinstitute a valet system (pdf) if parking levels are higher than anticipated.
