Does Silver Lake Church-to-Hotel Project Have Too Many Bars?

New, 71 comments

Tomorrow the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council will discuss plans to turn the Pilgrim Church on Griffith Park Boulevard into a boutique hotel, and locals are mobilizing against the idea. Dana Hollister (who owns nearby restaurant Cliff's Edge and 4100 bar) has been tinkering with the idea of converting the church into a 26-room hotel for a couple of years now, and unveiled her latest plans for the space back in February. According to Eastsider LA, many of the neighbors are supportive of the general concept, but worried about the things you'd expect: traffic, noise, and parking. Hollister says she's doing what she can to mitigate concerns, like planning to lease nearby parking lots for hotel guests. But neighbors' biggest issue isn't with the hotel itself, but its four planned bar areas, including a rooftop lounge for 100 people and a lobby that can hold 150. A petition asking the SLNC to keep residents' best interests in mind has 200 signatures.
