A year ago, a rep for developer Chetrit Group said work was done on the Hotel Clark and that the 1914 hotel would reopen in September 2012. But now "officials swear" that the project, which has been in the works for a decade or so, is "expected" to open by June, according to the Downtown News. Thrilling words. Facade work was underway recently and "interior work has already been completed." When it finally opens, the hotel will be operated by boutiquey King & Grove and have 347 rooms and three restaurants, plus a banquet space and lobby bar. There is one problem: the hotel's liquore license is being appealed by a union "questioning the validity of the project's environmental impact report" (the report required by California law for any large development project).
