Take a Peek at Preliminary Art for the Expo Line Extension

New, 32 comments

Metro recently hired eight artists to adorn the seven stations of the Expo Line light rail extension to Santa Monica (two artists, a muralist and a sculptor, will cover the terminus near the beach)--now the preliminary pieces are available for critiques. The new pieces, to be finalized in the fall, are "diminuitve" compared to the grand art of the Gold, Red, and Purple lines, says KCET. It's not an issue of cost-cutting, as all Metro rail projects devote a half-percent of their budget to artwork--instead the Expo Line stations are too small to accommodate giant pieces, saves for the Fourth and Colorado stop.
