Along with rocketing house prices, here's another sign that LA's economy is starting to get back on track: FilmLA (the local film permitting body) reports a big increase in film production days around town. For the first quarter of 2013, on-location filming in LA was up 17.6 percent over the same period last year. LA Observed breaks down the numbers, which show that commercial filming stayed flat, but feature films were the big winner, with a 25 percent bump. Earlier this year the City Council passed a measure to try to lure more TV production back to LA, after seeing the number of pilots shot here drop for the past few years. In 2012, LA raked in $231,000 from film permits.
