SANTA MONICA: The nearly 54-year-old Chez Jay bar sits on the edge of the under-construction Tongva Park and now its operators are considering a $1.5 million makeover that would give it an outdoor patio facing the park and a new private dining room.

VENICE: A little bit of the South is coming to Abbot Kinney with the arrival of Willie Jane, a Southern-style restaurant filling the former Wolf in Sheep's Clothing--partner Brad Johnson is behind both endeavors. Dishes like dungeness crab soup and mussels with ham are on the menu, with Venice-based designer Rae Scarton behind the look.

PALMS: Gentrifying Palms is getting a new restaurant to replace the loss of nearby Chengo--The Doughroom is a paean to delicious carbs (pastas, breads, etc.) and other American-style comfort foods. There'll be indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of wine and beer. Opening in May.

INDIO: If you're one of the lucky ones with Coachella tickets, Eater has intel on the food scene at the polo grounds. Expect everything from Pink's hot dogs to Taiwanese at Baohaus to Lime Truck's Mexican fare, and even a farmers' market with a breakfast buffet.
