It seems crazy, but according to the Pacific Coast Architecture Database, architect Raphael Soriano built his Spencer Austrian House for just $5,000, "which included built-in bookcases of mahogany, drawers and dressers." Austrian was a lawyer; Soriano built him this house on a hillside lot on the west side of the Silver Lake Reservoir in 1937. It comes with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a deck, a teak sink, and a reclaimed wood wall. The listing calls this a "redefined work," which sounds like it's not quite been preserved in amber. The house last sold in 2006 for $815,000 and is now asking $1.249 million.
