Work should begin soon on the Columbia Square mixed-use project on Sunset, reports the Wall Street Journal. The development at the site of the former (and now mostly vacant) CBS Studios on Sunset was brought back from the dead by developer Kilroy Realty Group, which recently bought the site and approvals for $65 million. Kilroy scaled back the previous developer's proposal, which sunk amid the recession, and now plans 200 rentals, 30,000 square feet of retail, and 330,000 square feet of new office space (wowza). Three small historic buildings on the site will also be renovated. The project was originally supposed to include a very controversial 28-story tower, but it's not clear now how high it will rise.
