The Expo Greenway in Westwood took a step toward becoming a reality last week as the Expo Construction Authority approved $89,000 of initial funding. According to the concept report, the Greenway project "will provide urban runoff treatment, green space, access to public transit, and educational and recreational opportunities" next to the Westwood Expo Line stop, and includes streams (to help with runoff), native plants, interpretative signs, and a bike path. The money approved will go towards building the unglamorous-but-critical culverts under the Expo Line that will provide drainage and help create the planned streams, says Streetsblog. While it's an important start, no additional funding has yet been approved, leaving the future of the Expo Greenway still in some jeopardy.
