Huge Planting On as Echo Park Lake Inches Toward Reopening

New, 14 comments

There is furious work going on at Echo Park Lake in preparation for a reopening, reports Eastsider LA. A hard hat tour revealed numerous workers wading in the mud and, apparently cold, water so they can plant 20,000 pieces of vegetation in the refurbished lake's bottom. The work includes net-laying so pesky birds don't eat the young lotuses. For two years, the lake and its adjoining 29-acre park have been a closed-off, dusty construction zone as they underwent an $85 million makeover that includes a new filtration system, cafe, and Lady of the Lake statue. The lake began filling with water again in January and the hope is that the space reopens this season, though no specific date has been announced.
