City Considering Giving Money to Village at Westfield Topanga

New, 14 comments

It seems there's even more weirdness swirling around the inching-forward Village at Westfield Topanga project. Now the project--which will one day include a Costco and bunch of other shops, a hotel, an office tower, and a community center of some kind--has found itself a hot potato in the race for City Controller. It seems that, just weeks after the City Council approved the project, Westfield came back and asked for a little financial help, possibly in the form of a tax break, to get the project built. As the Daily News reports, the city--led by councilmember and candidate for City Controller Dennis Zine--agreed to "undertake a financial study of the Village" for Westfield. The report is due next month, but in the meantime, concerned citizen (and look at that, Zine's chief rival for Controller) Ron Galperin wants to know why the city is offering any handouts to the developer.
