Arclight and 2 Other Theater Operators Interested in SaMo Site

New, 6 comments

There once were plans for AMC to build a 70,000-square-foot movie theater at *Fourth and Arizona in downtown Santa Monica, but the company dropped their plans after they were purchased by a Chinese company (after completing an environmental impact report, AMC officials also said it wouldn't be financially feasible to build a movie house there). But three theater operators specializing in independent films have now stated their interest in building a theater at the same site, reports the Santa Monica Daily Press. Santa Monica's economic development manager says it's early in the process, but let it be known that Arclight Theatres, LOOK Cinemas, and Ipic are all "kicking the tire," and will likely submit proposals in a month. Arclight already operates uber-popular theaters in Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Pasadena, and El Segundo. Ipic, meanwhile, has plans to open an extremely upscale movie palace in the former Avco Westwood theater.
