Of the 14 or so houses that Swedish-born architect Greta Magnusson Grossman designed in Los Angeles between 1949 and 1959, three can be found in the Lake Hollywood area. One of these three is the Hurley Residence, which hit the market for the first time ever this past summer, and sold in October for $2 million. The other two are known as the Nelson Houses. Far more modest than the nearby Hurley, this pair of cantilevered houses was built on a sloping lot in 1954 for Mrs. Frances Nelson, who commissioned the joint property with the purpose of living in the upper structure and renting out the lower one. At some point in the intervening years, the compound was subdivided, and the upper unit that Mrs. Nelson once resided in is now being offered as a rental. Per the owner, the 940-square-foot modern has been updated with new systems and appliances, and features two bedrooms, one and three-quarters baths, walls of glass, transom windows, ten-foot ceilings, a brick fireplace, a view deck, a garden with patio and fruit orchard, an enclosed dog run, and one-car garage. Monthly rent for the pet-friendly house is $4,800.
