The 1940s Estrada Courts housing project in Boyle Heights has lead paint and pipes and is surrounded by freeways and factories--it's not a very healthy place to live. But unlike most unhealthy low-cost housing developments, Black Eyed Peas' Will.i.am grew up in Estrada Courts, and he's decided to help. His i.am.angel Foundation (eesh) is working with a wellness-focused building company to give the development a "large-scale renovation and modernization," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The end result should be healthier drinking water and a less leaded environment for Estrada's 1,200 residents. Will.i.am's Trans4m (again, eesh) is supposed to be building a community center in the neighborhood, but we haven't heard much about that lately.
