Los Angeles artist Cliff Garten has helped out our poor cousins to the north by adding some panache to the courtyard of San Francisco's 50 United Nations Plaza building. Garten, who you may recall added the wavy screens around the entrance to the Kenneth Hahn Recreation Area, created an artistic ribbon design, titled Ribbons, in the courtyard of the building, which incorporates plans by the original architect, Arthur Brown Jr. Per the project description: "The courtyard design transforms the classical symmetry of the 1932 Arthur Brown building, by inserting a sculptural matrix of paving, seating, fountains and planting into the building's 20,000 sq. ft. courtyard."
