A moribund stretch of Olympic Boulevard in South Park (East South Park?) is slowly coming back to life--the latest project is a TCA-designed mixed-user at Grand Avenue, called 1000 Grand. It's set to break ground in the spring. Sure to incite the ire of skyscraper enthusiasts like Councilmember Jose Huizar, the seven-story project from the Hanover Company--currently building a mixed-user at Olympic and Hill while another developer gets ready to start on a similar project at Olympic and Olive--will bring 274 rental units and 12,000 square feet of retail, along with a pool, theater, gym, and bike parking. The former nightclub at the site, known as Crash Mansion, is already being demolished, though part of the structure, which dates to 1910, will be repurposed for the new building. The sidewalks along Olympic here are an ADA lawsuit come to life but Brigham Yen notes they will be replaced and widened as part of the development, while already-wide Olympic will get even fatter, courtesy of the LADOT.
