See A House Being Built Around A Tree In Elysian Heights

New, 4 comments

We've seen houses built around trees before, how does it happen? Magic, probably. And now we can watch the magic happen at the House in the Trees, a project underway right now in Elysian Heights. Architect Simon Storey, who also designed the skinny black Eel's Nest in Echo Park, writes on his website that "The location on the hillside was chosen to minimise the disruption to the native vegetation - it fits between 3 large mature trees on three sides," but as Eastsider LA points out, one pine actually pierces the house itself. The homeowners are keeping a blog to show construction, which looks like it's close to wrapping up. Work started in June 2012.
