Smiling Assassin's 1986 Behemoth in Bel Air Asking $19.8MM

New, 10 comments

It makes perfect sense to us that this house belongs to someone with the word "assassin" in his nickname and who cites Die Hard as his favorite movie. But slightly less sense that his full nickname is the Smiling Assassin, aka Japanese golfer Shigeki Maruyama. This doesn't look like the house for someone with a lot of joy in their lives. It was designed in 1986 by architect Ted Tanaka--the guy who did the pylons at LAX--but was updated in 2008. And it is a monster. Set on 3.22 acres in Bel Air, the house looks even more enormous than its 13,339 square feet. It has six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, "gym, spectacular stair case, glass enclosed elevator, maid quarter, tennis court, pool & spa" and views every which way. Last sold in 2004 for $7.6 million, it's just hit the market for an eye-popping $19.8 million.
