Work is finally moving forward on two new mixed-users in Hollywood, two and a half years after local developer Champion Real Estate purchased more than a dozen parcels near Selma and Highland. A tipster informs us that the lot has been cleared and tarps are up at the site, which currently houses low-rise buildings and parking lots. Both buildings will be six stories tall, but lower in height on the sides that face residential streets--one will have 134 units and nearly 13,000 square feet of retail, and the other will have 114 units and just 494 square feet of retail. Altogether the project will have 538 underground parking spaces, reduced from the required 584 (there's a subway station within walking distance). Killefer Flamang is handling the design--they say that "giant openings have been punched through the neutral elements, creating view corridors from the street into the landscaped courtyards"--which seems like a good sign. About 26,000 square feet of open space--courtyards, pools, and rec rooms--are also part of the deal.
