It was recently announced that a five-mile stretch of the LA River, from North Atwater to Elysian Park through a soft-bottomed section known as the Glendale Narrows, could open this summer for boating, biking, and fishing. That good news was tempered by the fact that pets, including leashed dogs, will be banned from the concrete slopes and water. Eastsider LA spoke to someone in Councilman Ed Reyes's office, who said this: "Some people don't pick up after their dogs. When people don't pick up the poop, it impacts the fish in the water and impacts the birds." [Eastsider LA]
