The current western terminus of the Expo Line light rail, near downtown Culver City and the Hayden Tract, is set to see some dramatic changes. Currently rundown and mostly lifeless (save for the Helms Bakery retail complex) the area will soon get a jolt with Platform, an upscale retail project from developers Runyon Group. Architects Abramson Teiger have just released new renderings for the project, which will hug one side of the elevated Expo station and features a style similar to the uber-trendy Space15Twenty retail complex on Cahuenga in Hollywood. Looks like some retailers have already signed leases at Platform, which will have about half a dozen three- and four-story buildings (plus an awesome parking garage). The old businesses that once sat on this site, mostly shuttered car dealerships that have lately served as mural backdrops, are supposed to get the heave-ho this month or next.
