A man in Tarzana learned the hard way: bulldoze trees at your peril. The unfortunate incident occurred when the Mulholland Drive homeowner attempted to grade his property without a permit, and strayed beyond his property line: He "knowingly flattened some 20,000 square feet of parkland ...[tearing] up 71 protected California live oaks and black walnut trees, decimating 100-year-old chaparral" in 2011. He was sentenced this month to three years probation, 30 days of community service, and environmental restitution at an estimated cost of $250,000. [Daily News]
