New, 2 comments

LAX: Early Wednesday morning, a 52.5 ton turbine generator was lifted into LAX's new Central Utility Plant (see the above photos for some hot utility action). This is one of two giant turbines that'll go in the "highly-efficient, state-of-the-art, computer-operated facility that will provide additional capacity for air conditioning, heating, and lighting of the airline terminals, Theme Building, and airport administration buildings." THE INTERNET: SCI-Arc has launched its SCI-Arc Media Archive, an online database of its public events spanning from 1974 to today. That means you now have total access to 600-plus talks from people like Frank Gehry, John Lautner, Rem Koolhaas, and David Hockney. According to a press release, "Documentation critical to understanding the architectural history and legacy of Southern California, and Los Angeles' role as an incubator of innovation, is particularly strong in this collection."
