Eastsider LA goes deep on the under-renovation Echo Park Lake--since it's manmade, workers will have to create an underwater landscape for the fish and other wildlife that frequent the lake. The new EPL will have variable depths mostly between 12 and 18 inches (eight feet at the deepest part) and be lined with a foot-thick layer of bentonite-enhanced clay; it'll be encircled by a foot-thick concrete and rebar wall. There will be a partial refill "as early as this winter" so the contractor can start planting lotus and other plants. [Eastsider LA, image via]
