Brad Pitt Kronish House Gossip, Zaha Hadid at SCI-Arc

New, 3 comments

BEVERLY HILLS: In case you don't have a big enough archi-crush on Brad Pitt, we've heard some very charming gossip about the man: Last year, the owners of the Richard Neutra-designed Kronish House in Beverly Hills put the house on the market as a teardown and pretty much the whole of LA's preservation community banded together to find the house a new owner who'd preserve it (it was asking $13.995 million). Word is that Brad Pitt called up someone involved in the sale and said something along the lines of "I don't really want to buy this house, but I will if I have to." Awwww. (He also nabbed a lot of votes in our poll to guess the buyer.) The Kronish eventually sold to Greek shipping heir/Paris Hilton ex Stavros Niarchos. [Curbed Staff]

ARTS DISTRICT: We don't get a lot of starchitect Zaha Hadid here in SoCal, so this is something, at least: Starting October 12, SCI-Arc is hosting Pleated Shell Structures, "a short term research prototype" by Hadid. The description is a lot of architectish nonsense like "The installation will explore as a design-build exercise, synergies between architectural articulation, engineering logics and fabrication constraints," so guess you'll just have to go and figure out what it is once you're there.
