In a total no-brainer, the West Hollywood City Council has decided to make the temporary rainbow crosswalks in Boystown permanent. The crossings at San Vicente and Santa Monica were originally just a Pride Month deal supposed to last through June, but they've been so popular that the city now intends to regrade and put down the standard thermoplastic markings, according to the WeHo Patch. The city council thought the crosswalks would be big with out-of-towners and Councilmember John Duran says in particular that it'll be important for young LGBT visitors to see "a municipality where the rainbow colors are on display all year long ... It tells them there is a safe place in America where the LGBT community is celebrated." Somewhat less heartwarmingly, Councilmember John D'Amico "suggested creating a special Twitter hashtag and painting it on the crosswalks."
