As our summer heat wave reaches day 700 and the mercury continues to hover around eleventy billion, we were wondering how old-timey Angelenos kept cool when the inevitable few weeks of sweltering heat hit. In the days before crappy air conditioning wall units and ArcLight matinees, there were sprinklers, public pools, and Bermuda shorts "upset[ting] the normal dignity which prevails at the Mocambo" on the Sunset Strip.
