Dirt started moving last fall for the long-delayed Wilshire at La Brea mixed-user, developed by BRE, but apparently the real stuff now beings in earnest. GlobeSt.com reports that after three years of pre-construction, ground has officially been broken and the project should be up and running in April 2014. The block-sized Wilshire at La Brea will be six stories and have 480 residential units, 44,000 square feet of retail, 997 parking spaces in two and a half levels, two pools, "state-of-the-art fitness facilities," and "themed facades on street-facing sides of the structure." (What kind of themes? The 1920s, cartoon characters of the eighties, brutalist banks??) The project is designed by TCA Architects and will one day be Purple Line adjacent.
