Here's DJ Cut Chemist Playing an LA Mixtape in the Neighborhoods That Inspired It

New, 1 comment

KCET's new site Artbound has spawned an awesome new series called Hear and Now, in which they "put Southern California musicians in the locations that inspired a song, and document a performance of the song, in that place." First up is a mixtape from DJ Cut Chemist (with a video filmed in just one day) that runs from Downtown to MacArthur Park to Little Ethiopia to the Pacific.

Here's the setlist:
Downtown: "California Soul" by Marlena Shaw
MacArthur Park: Cumbia music
Little Ethiopia: "Emente" by Girma Beyene and Mulatu Astatke
Venice: "Outro" by Cut Chemist
Santa Monica: "Stranger on the Shore" by Mister Acker Bilk

Over at Artbound, Cut Chemist explains his choices.
