David Beckham in His Underwear on Hollywood, USC-Adjacent Affordable Housing Preserved

HOLLYWOOD: Fitting right in, no doubt, there is now a giant statue of David Beckham in his underwear outside Hollywood & Highland. Our pals at Racked LA report that the statue belongs to H&M (Beckham has an underwear collection with the chain) and that "Posted signs encourage users to upload their shots to Instagram for a chance at prizes including a $1,000 H&M shopping spree." In a change of pace for Hollywood Boulevard, "you can look but you can't touch." The statue will move to Santa Monica Place after August 19. [Racked LA]

EXPOSITION PARK: Non-profit affordable housing developer Abode Communities and TRUST South LA have just saved the Expo-adjacent Rolland Curtis Gardens near USC from going market rate--they announced that they've purchased the property and plan to add 50 to 100 new units. Rolland Curtis Gardens was built in 1981 and has always been affordable, but it sold to a private investor in 2004 who hoped to convert it to market-rate housing. The new owners will start leasing vacant units and tackling deferred maintenance right away; they'll start planning the new additions in late 2012 or early 2013. USC's neighbors have been pretty worried about gentrification and maintaining affordable housing as all kinds of new development springs up around campus. [Curbed Inbox]
