There is going to be some super awesome fun in the LA streets this October--Streetsblog reports that everyone's favorite block party, CicLAvia, has been moved back one week to October 7 to accommodate the space shuttle Endeavour's trip through town (to the California Science Center) on the weekend of October 14. For now, let's focus on CicLAvia: hours will remain the same and all-too short (10 am to 3 pm), but the route will get some major changes.
"Gone are the 'starting points' at Hollenbeck Park in East L.A. and the Heliotrope/Melrose 'Bike District' in East Hollywood. Instead, the western most point of CicLAvia V is at MacArthur Park ... and the eastern most point is Soto Station on the Gold Line," says Streetsblog. The new route is 9.1 miles and is still centered around Downtown, but now has spurs down to USC (and the Expo Line!) via Figueroa, out to Boyle Heights and East LA (and the Gold Line!) via First and Fourth Streets, up into Chinatown (and past the soon-to-open Grand Park! and more Gold Line!) via Spring and Broadway, and to MacArthur Park via Seventh Street.
