For the sixth time in seven years, the LA City Council approved an increase in the price of parking tickets: Scofflaws will now pay five bucks more per infraction, meaning the fine for an expired meter increases to $63, parking on street sweeping days will net you a $73 ticket, and cars in red zones will face a $93 fine. Larry Gross of the Coalition for Economic Survival calls the increases a cheap revenue ploy by the city that disproportionately affects working-class families. [LAT]
