The developers of the Playhouse Plaza project in Pasadena have come back from a major smackdown: last month, the city's Arts and Culture Commission turned down IDS's plan for a 10-foot bronze jester statue "in period costume, surrounded by Shakespearean quotes, balancing a ball and holding a scepter and rose"--they called it "trite, boring and, despite the rose, not sufficiently Pasadena-centric." IDS appealed to the city council and ended up getting approval with the condition they ditch the Shakespeare and make a few other changes. [Pasadena Star-News, image via]
